Student Objectives

  • Students will be able to describe the structure of DNA.
  • Students will be able to compare and contrast DNA and RNA.
  • Students will be able to describe how DNA codes for the primary structure of proteins.
  • Students will be able to describe how traits are coded by DNA.
  • Students will be able to explain how traits are inherited.
  • Using Punnett squares, students will be able to predict the likelihood that a couple's future children will inherited certain traits.
  • Students will be able to describe how Mendel derived his law of segregation.
  • Students will be able to describe how Mendel derived his law of independent assortment.
  • Students will be able to predict when a trait is linked to the X-chromosome.
